On October 26 and 27, 2024, eighteen sisters met in House St. Agnes in Thuine for a “Quo Vadis” weekend. The gathering was planned for sisters in Germany who made their perpetual profession of vows within the past twenty-five years. The weekend provided an opportunity to reflect upon Saints Peter and Paul and their significance for religious life.
Amongst those present were Sister M. Regina Pacis Coury, who belongs to our American Province and is currently stationed in Rome. Last year, she hosted three groups of sisters from Germany who traveled to the Eternal City to take part in a pilgrimage there.
The main theme of the weekend dealt with the well-known question that St. Peter is said to have asked of Christ, as he [Peter] was fleeing from the city and encountered Jesus outside the gates of Rome: “Quo Vadis, Domine?” (“Where are you going, Lord?”) This encounter with Christ changed Peter’s path and with it also the direction of his life!
During the weekend, we saw ourselves faced with the same question, and the encounter with Christ also became an encounter with each other. We ended the weekend of prayer, community and conversation with a virtual tour of Rome… with hearts burning within us from being grasped by Christ’s invitation to follow Him.
