It began in the Temple.
A child entered through a door in the arms of his parents.
They were met by an elderly man and woman.
It was the start of something new.
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Church celebrates the mystery of the Child Jesusbeing presented in the Temple by Mary and Joseph forty days after his birth. The storyis a familiar one. In ancient Israel, every first born son was dedicated in a special wayto the service of God.
This is also the day when the universal Church celebrates the Day of Consecrated Life. This year’s celebration is marked by a special significance. It takes place during a ,Holy Year whose theme is “pilgrims of hope".
Christ, who is the door to the Father, deigns to be carried through a door in order tomeet Simeon, Anna – and us! One who has just been born greets those who are in thetwilight of their lives. The new comes to meet the old. Eternity comes to meet time.Salvation comes to those who wait under the burden of sin.
We celebrate this mystery as women religious consecrated to God. In gratitude for hiscall in our lives, we pray that everyone we are privileged to meet and serve be blessedthrough our following of Christ. Together, may we walk this pilgrim path to JesusChrist, our Hope!
